Day 30 - 1 Month

Baby Rosalee,
Today you are a whole month old.  It has been a month of ups and downs, but we are now finally starting to get into the swing of things.  The first week at home was pretty easy, you just ate and slept the whole time.  The second week brought a little hiccup that we couldn't quite figure out.  I would feed you and then you would scream in pain.  Your sister use to do the same thing, so I knew it was reflux.  I cut dairy and eggs (and tomatoes and spicy things) out of my diet and then you were back to normal again.  I can tell if I've had something with dairy in it because you will scream shortly after being fed...even if it's just something that's been cooked in butter.  It's extremely difficult to do, but you are worth the sacrifice.

You now eat every 3 hours like clockwork.  It's been great for our schedules and allowing things to get done around the house.  You still don't go to sleep without someone holding you, but you do transfer to your crib or the bouncer fairly well.  You slept with Mommy for the first month of your life.  Daddy slept with us for a night or two, but we take up too much room and he was afraid of smothering you.  It was easier to have you close with the reflux, I was just always so worried that you would choke.  I managed to put you into your own bed for the first time last night.  You did great and slept in 4 hour increments.  It's still difficult getting up every 4 hours to feed, but it's better than waking up more times.

I went back to work when you were only 3 weeks old.  It was (and continues to be) one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.  I know your dad has things under control during the day, but I feel like I'm missing out on so much.  Just like with your sister, I only have less than 2 hours with you before you are in bed.  I know this was a choice we made together and we have to make sacrifices so we can have the things we have, but it's still very difficult.

We still cannot figure out what color your eyes are.  I'm guessing they will turn brown, but they do still look blue/grey for the time being.  You have a bit of baby acne, but hopefully soon you will grow out of it.  You appear to look very much like your father, but you do have more of my features than your sister does.  You quickly have moved out of newborn clothes and are growing so well.  You really like being covered in a blanket and hate being naked...warm is your thing.

I'm looking forward to moving past the newborn stage and on to the funner parts of your life, but I'm still soaking up the snuggles while I can.

Happy one month little girl.
Your mommy
